EPIC – Why Do You Need This?
Hi, my name is Kapilraj Ravendran, and I am an IMG from Bulgaria. I plan to work for the NHS as I am a UK national. This blog will explain:
• What is EPIC and why do you need it?
• The steps to be carried out for EPIC verification
What is EPIC and Why Do You Need it?
EPIC stands for Electronic Portfolio of International Credentials. In essence, it provides a primary source for the verification of medical credentials to physicians and organisations such as the GMC worldwide.
It also acts as a reference point for the GMC, which confirms authenticity directly with the source. For a credential (qualification), this means confirming that the credential is authentic directly with the institution that issued the credential.
How to Make an EPIC Account?
This can be done online https://www.ecfmgepic.org/index.html. There is a fee which is $130. You will need the following to set up an account.
• A full-colour photograph of your face
• Scanned, full-colour copy of the photograph page of your current, unexpired passport
• Information about your medical education, including your medical school identification number (if applicable) and attendance and degree issue dates.
What to Do Next?
Once you have an account registered, you will be given an EPIC ID number. You then need to download an EIF form and have your identity verified. The next step will be to start the notary process and meet with a notary over Zoom, where you will electronically sign your EIF.
You will then receive an email from EPIC stating that the EIF has been accepted, after which you upload your letter of completion (as an Alternative Graduation Document) or your diploma certificate. There is again a fee of $100.
After this, you are ready to move onto the next step, GMC registration. The EPIC verification process can take between 4-6 weeks.
